Elves!

The Red Elves are a race I am particularly fond of. Like most fantasies nowadays, not only does the author create different races like dwarves, humans and elves. No, they like to make sub-races like wood elf, dark elf, petty dwarves and so forth. Not wanting to borrow the same names and fall into the same mold and images, I decided to create a new sub-race: the Red Elf.

After the first great war the immortal elves were divided. Some wanted to build up lasting settlements and great riches, to become very powerful and lordly. Others wanted to have no more to do with the earth, and so they chose to wander the seas, hoping to return to the old gods. And still others felt an intense calling to the earth, to protect it. This latter sect became a nomadic people, whose tribal mysticism gives them a unique connection to the wilds.

The Red Elves do not set up permanent settlements, but wander here and there in small tribes, living off the land and learning it's language. They are not particularly fond of most folk, though they have been know to trade with traveling dwarves. Mostly, they keep to thier own. They are seldom seen, unless they want to be, for the red elves have learned much of the natural world and how to blend into their surroundings.

The mystic ways of the red elf shaman are quite unique to their world. They do not worship any paticular diety, rather they roam and give thanks to the dieties they encounter in nature. These elves are not on good terms with thier brethren, the high elves. Their lack of oneness to the earth makes them "unclean." The high elves, on the other hand, consider their red counterparts to be primitively savage, denying them leave into their lands.
